Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
This recipe is fantastic for making amazing golden mashed potatoes with instant pot. The total time needed is about 25 minutes, including preparation.
Here are the pieces of equipment needed for this recipe:
- instant pot large enough to contain the potatoes
- potato peeler
- electric hand mixer
- spatula
- large colander that can hold the potatoes
- container for finished mashed potatoes
Here are the ingredients needed to make the recipe:
- russet potatoes (3 pounds)
- a bar of butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 2 cups of milk
Steps:
- Wash potatoes, peel potatoes, and wash peeled potatoes. Use a colander to hold the potatoes after the first wash.
- Cut potatoes into around eight pieces and put them into the instant pot. Smaller size potatoes make a more consistent mashed potato texture.
- Fill the instant pot with enough water to keep the potatoes underwater.
- Turn on the instant pot and click on manual. Turn on the option for high pressure for five minutes. Remember that it will take more than five minutes for the instant pot to cook the potatoes due to the timing for pressure build-up.
- Once the instant pot beeped, then force release pressure. Place a paper towel on top of the release vent to keep the water from splattering all over the place.
- Wash the colander from earlier use, then use the colander to strain water away from the instant pot. Be careful here as the water is hot, and the instant pot liner is also hot and steamy.
- Place potatoes back into the instant pot and cut the butter bar into smaller pieces. Place the cut butter into the instant pot along with milk.
- Use a hand mixer in the lowest setting and go to town inside the instant pot. Add more milk if mashed potatoes are not smooth enough.
- Woohoo, you made some mashed potatoes. Scrape away the instant pot using the spatula and transfer the finished mashed potatoes into containers.
